Overview

Grace Community School opened its doors in 1980 as a Christian education ministry of Grace Community Church. For the past quarter-century, Grace has come alongside families who are committed to offering their children in Kindergarten through ninth grade an academically solid, thoroughly Christian education. Special academic features of Grace Community School’s education include:

  • A full day, academic kindergarten. Our kindergarten students learn to read through a phonics-based program. They are reading books by the second semester of the year. Grace Kindergarten students also successfully master cursive writing.

  • In addition to a full school day of academic studies in Language Arts, Mathematics, Bible, Social Studies-History, and Science, each elementary grade enjoys classes in computer lab, music, physical education, and library. Students in grades four through nine may audition for choir and band.

  • Junior High students may enroll in a variety of enrichment classes. These include Latin, Computer Lab, Speech, Choir, Research Paper Writing, Hand Chimes, Yearbook, and Student Council.

However, the heart of our curriculum at Grace school is the Bible. We are convinced that this book is the inspired, inerrant Word of God; it is accordingly God’s sole revelation to mankind; it is our only authoritative source of objective truth; it is how each student can learn to know, fear, and love his or her Creator.

The faculty and administration of Grace Community School (each of whom is a qualified professional) are committed to ministering to the hearts of our students. (Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23) In essence, we are not behaviorists; we are not interested in training students to conform their outward behavior to a set of rigid, man-made rules, while their hearts remain untouched by the Word of God. Of course we enforce high behavior standards, but only as a means to provide a pleasant, successful education environment, and a loving atmosphere in which each student is hopefully brought, graciously, under the convicting power of the Holy Spirit, as he or she is confronted by the truths of God’s Word.

Grace Community School implements this commitment to minister to the hearts of our students via a passionate emphasis on three distinctives: 1) The Sufficiency of Scripture; 2) the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and; 3) the Power of the Gospel.

  • The Sufficiency of Scripture. Scripture, the Bible, the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God is sufficient for all of life’s questions. It presents absolute truth. We do not need psychology, psychiatric therapy, or any other man-centered, man-created answers to life’s challenges. The Bible is all-sufficient. It reveals God’s holy, righteous, and loving character. It reveals man’s fallen nature and desperate need of a savior. And it proclaims the Lord Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life. Man’s only hope for eternal life is a personal relationship with Him. We strive diligently to faithfully present these truths to our students.

  • The Lordship of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, wholly man and wholly God, the second person of the Trinity, is Lord. When God brings salvation to an individual through genuine repentance, he or she accepts Jesus Christ as Lord of every area of life. The Holy Spirit, now abiding in the heart of the believer, begins to change the Christian’s thoughts, attitudes, motives, and actions, and powerfully convict the believer whenever he or she sins. It is inconceivable that a person would claim to be a Christian and yet remain in a habit or lifestyle that is openly contradictory to the principles of God’s Word. If Jesus Christ is to be claimed as Savior, He must concurrently be worshipped and obeyed as Lord. We strive diligently to faithfully present these truths to our students.

  • The Power of the Gospel. Outside a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, each person is hopelessly lost and helpless to do anything about it. We cannot save ourselves; we cannot even reform ourselves. We do not need an improved self-esteem; we do not need our “perceived needs” met. We need to be saved from sin, death, and hell. Our only hope is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel truthfully presents each individual as a wretched sinner, desperately lost and bound for an eternity separated from God. But the gospel also presents God as a loving, gracious heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ as a redeeming Savior who willingly died for our sins on the cross, suffering the cruel penalty that we deserved, and securing our complete and eternal salvation. We strive diligently to faithfully confront each student of Grace Community School with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
