Description:
First grade is a year in which the students grow academically at a rapid rate. They learn intense phonics with lots of new rules that are integrated with their language, spelling, handwriting, and, most importantly, their reading. Of course the end result in strengthening their reading skills is to read successfully across the curriculum. It is especially important for reading and studying the Word of God. We learn multiple math skills in first grade as well. The primary focus of our year is God’s Word and our time in it, as well as learning to obey it and apply it to our lives in tangible ways. We learn to grow together, and put each other first knowing that Christ gives us the example to follow. The fruits of the Spirit as stated in Galatians 5:22,23 are how we want to learn to respond in all situations, academic or otherwise. We also get opportunities to let our lights shine for Christ off campus on fun field trips (7 this year!).
